Open Source
Visiban's core is free, open-source, and always will be. No feature walls on the things a small team needs to get work done.
The license
The core product (visiban/visiban) is licensed under the Apache 2.0 License. You can use it, fork it, modify it, and run it commercially — no strings attached.
Open-core model
Visiban follows an open-core model. The fully functional core — boards, cards, swimlanes, RBAC, real-time sync, groups, export/import — is in the OSS repo. A small team can use Visiban end-to-end without ever needing the enterprise edition.
Enterprise features (SSO/SAML, audit logs, advanced analytics, automation rules, multi-tenancy, white-labeling) are available in Visiban Enterprise, which builds on top of the OSS core.
Why open source?
Trust
You can read every line of code that runs on your server. No hidden telemetry, no surprise behaviour.
Longevity
If we ever disappear, you still have the code. Your data and your workflow aren't hostage to our uptime.
Community
Issues, pull requests, and forks make the product better for everyone. Scratch your own itch.
Self-hosting first
We designed for self-hosting from day one. The Docker Compose setup is first-class, not an afterthought.
Contributing
Contributions are welcome. The project uses GitLab for issues and merge requests. External contributors sign a CLA that lets us include contributions in both the OSS and Enterprise products.
